Piano Tuning
Keep Your Piano in Perfect Harmony.
A regular tuning adjusts each string so your piano sounds its best at the standard concert pitch (A440 Hz). This is typically done twice or thrice a year to keep your piano in tune and stable.
Regular tuning works best when the piano has been maintained consistently over time and is only slightly out of tune.
If your piano is significantly out of tune, a pitch raise will be required before standard fine tuning. This applies when the piano’s pitch has dropped more than 15–20 cents (about 6–8 Hz below standard A440) or if the piano has not been tuned for several years.
For very out-of-tune pianos, the piano may not stay in tune for long, even after a pitch raise and fine tuning. A follow-up tuning is often recommended within 4 to 6 weeks after the initial service. This helps lock in the pitch and ensures longer-lasting results.
Voicing is the process of adjusting a piano’s hammer felts to change the instrument’s tone quality — making it brighter, softer, or more even across the keys. Over time, hammers become compacted and the piano may sound too harsh, dull, or uneven from note to note.
Voicing is recommended for pianists who feel their instrument’s sound doesn’t match their preference, or when a piano develops an inconsistent tone. It’s especially useful for teachers, performers, and churches who need a piano with a consistent, pleasing sound.
